Reliable data delivery in ICN-IoT environments

In an IoT environment, which is characterized by a multitude of interconnected smart devices with sensing and computational capabilities, many applications are (i) content-based, that is, they only interested in finding given type content rather than the location data, (ii) contextualized, generated consumed proximity user. this context, Information-Centric Networking (ICN) paradigm appealing model for efficiently retrieving application service decentralization towards network edge helps to reduce core load being data produced mainly confined area where generated. MobCCN ICN-based delivery protocol we designed operating such context (Borgia et al., 2016, 2018), static mobile enriched ICN functions. Specifically, leverages efficient routing forwarding protocol, exploiting opportunistic contacts among devices, fill Forwarding Interest Base (FIB) tables so as correctly forward packets intended producers. paper, aim enhance reliability exploring different retransmissions mechanisms, based on number duplicate Interests received same requested content, periodic retransmissions, single path versus disjoint multi-path forwarding, hysteresis mechanism combinations them. Extensive simulation results show that, analysed variants, one implements both hysteresis-based retransmission process ensures highest rates (up 95%) shortest path, very limited traffic overhead due retransmissions.
